Supplement Facts Label

Omega fatty acids are essential in balancing steroid hormones such as pregnenolone, progesterone, estrogen and cortisol. They also help to control the over production of insulin which is a key component to maintaining proper body composition and hormonal balance. Omega fatty acids are key components to the formation of prostaglandins, which serve as vital chemical messengers that directly impact your heart healthy, brain function and inflammation reduction.

MADE IN USA

Essential Fatty Acid contains Omega 3 fish oils and Omega 6 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids are also known as DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid). Omega-6 fatty acid is in the gamma linolenic acid form known as GLA which is from borage oil.

Today's media is overwhelmed with the evils of fat in the diet. Unfortunately, that message has been oversold, as there are definitely good fats out there, and some are just plain what their name says they are: essential...

It's sort of 'the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly' scenario. There are definitely bad fats out there. 'Trans' fats, often an unnatural, synthesized form of fat (like in margarine, for example), are a stress on the body, and it's a good idea to avoid them. Similarly, deep-fried fats of any type are altered by the heat, and even tend to be rancid, making them another 'bad dude'. (If you want to get into 'the Ugly', just deep fry a trans fat!)

Corti-Trim Testimonial

That leaves us with the 'good guys', of which there are several. Saturated fats often get lumped in with trans fats as one of the bad boys, which actually is a mistake. All of our body's cell walls are primarily saturated fat, so the manufacture of new cells requires it.

It's kind of worth knowing that the 'saturated' term merely describes how many hydrogen sites on a fat molecule are hydrogen-filled: in the case of saturated, all the sites are filled; for the mono-unsaturated, like olive oil, one site is left unfilled; while the rest, called polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), are those where multiple molecule sites are unfilled. The saturated fats tend to be solid at room temperature, while the more unsaturated the fat, the more it tends to be in a liquid (oil) state. Hang with us, and we'll tell you in a moment the main reason you want to know the difference.

Within the polyunsaturated group lies that 'essential' sub-group. These are the fatty acids that humans cannot synthesize on their own (linolenic and linoleic acids), so they must be obtained from dietary sources. Then humans can make other fatty acids from those two, giving us omega-3 and omega-6 (and other) fatty acids.

To whittle down a huge (HUGE) subject, our diets tend to lean (heavily) toward the omega-6 group. This group is associated with inflammation, and needs more omega-3 to offset or cancel such influences out. The bad news is that those omega-3 sources are hard to get, available primarily from deep-sea fish sources (cod, halibut, mackerel, etc.) and a few less-common plant sources (flax, borage).

With a proper balance, research has shown that EFA can really help to:

  • • Reduce fat cravings
  • • Ease inflammation
  • • Improve constipation
  • • Improve brittle nails and dry hair
  • • Improve LDL-cholesterol
  • • Improve health risks against both heart disease and certain cancers

So, a good EFA supplement can obviously be most helpful in a multitude of ways, while obtaining the proper ratio of EFA components can be most difficult. To make the task of obtaining these oils easier, Metabolic Research Center has put together an EFA supplement, in capsule form, that not only supplies what we feel is a great combination of hard-to-obtain fatty acids, but also adds two unique and important twists to avoid the pitfalls that haunt many, if not most, EFA supplements out there:

1. Remember we mentioned needing to know the difference between saturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA)? Well, even though some of the polyunsaturated oils are 'essential', that doesn't mean they can't have a down-side (and they do). PUFA's, by their very chemical nature, generated 'free radicals', which are cell-damaging molecules that can roam the body, while doing all sorts of untold harm (and helping us age faster!). So, they really can be a 'double-edged sword'. To combat the downside, while taking advantage of the upside, Metabolic Research Center adds natural vitamin E to each capsule, since vitamin E is well known to quench free radical formation.

2. Our second twist is a bit more personal, on a day-to-day basis: fish oil capsules can leave a fishy taste in the mouth...seems like a little thing, but to many this is enough of a hassle to leave EFA supplements alone. Metabolic Research Center has gone to the expense of putting an enteric coating on each capsule, so that the oils are released farther down the digestive tract, in a concerted effort to spare you this side effect.

One of the main benefits I receive from this product is that as long as I take it as directed I do not crave fatty foods even though my fat intake is at the barest minimum for my weight loss progress. There have been a few times I have either ran out or forgotten to take them and I find myself craving fatty foods -- then I remember I haven't taken my MRC Essential Fatty Acids. It makes all the difference on obtaining success with this new lifestyle!
