Flavors of Fall: Our Favorite Healthy Treats

The weather is cooling down, the days are getting shorter, bonfires are crackling, leaves will soon begin to turn, and football has started...there's no doubt about it - Fall is upon us! There are many reasons to love this time of year. Among our favorites are all of the delicious flavors of fall that come with the season. Pumpkins, carrots, cauliflower, potatoes, and other root vegetables come into their prime. And it seems like there's a new "pumpkin spice something" everywhere we go. Halloween and Thanksgiving will also make their appearance. We could go on and on...one thing's for certain - fall brings new flavors! 

For those of us who are trying to maintain healthy dietary choices, this time of year can be a little bit more difficult. The sweetness of pumpkin pie spice and apple pies, and pumpkin pies, and candy corn, are delicious on the tongue, but aren't always the best accompaniment to a healthy diet. No need to worry though - we've taken our favorite sweet fall flavors and slimmed them down. So, you can still enjoy all of the flavors fall has to offer without sabotaging your weight management goals. Read more to see our favorite healthy recipes!

HOMEMADE PUMPKIN PIE SPICE

  • 3 TBSP ground cinnamon 
  • 2 tsp ground ginger 
  • 2 tsp ground nutmeg 
  • 1 tsp ground allspice  
  • 1 ½ tsp ground cloves 
Mix together and store in a spice jar or other airtight container. 

CANDIED APPLE TEA

Prepare the hot tea per package instructions. Squeeze the protein drink into the tea. Add a dash of cinnamon and a couple drops of caramel extract. Stir and enjoy.      

PUMPKIN SPICED COFFEE

  • 1-2 dashes Pumpkin Pie Spice 
  • 8 ounces hot coffee 

Add a few dashes of Pumpkin Pie Spice to hot coffee and stir. If you take your coffee with cream, a splash of Vanilla Ready-to-Drink protein drink is a delightful addition that doesn't pack a ton of sugar, fat, and calories like traditional creamers can.

SKINNY FALL SPICED LATTE

Pour 3 ounces of Vanilla Ready-to-Drink protein drink into 8 oz. of hot coffee. Stir in your choice of spices and enjoy.

PUMPKIN SPICED CHOCOLATE TRUFFLES

In a small bowl, combine Vanilla Crème Pudding and pumpkin pie spice. Add 1 ½ - 2 ounces water. Roll into bit-sized balls and freeze on a cookie sheet for 20 minutes. In another small bowl, mix the Double Chocolate Pudding according to package instructions. Remove the frozen truffle balls from the freezer and roll into chocolate pudding mix. Lightly dust with pumpkin pie spice and place on a wax sheet lined tray and freeze for up to 60 minutes. 

PROTEIN GUMMY TREATS

Pour hot water in blender or mixer and add in gelatin slowly to avoid clumping. Swirl in 2 packets of your choice of concentrate protein drinks. Pour mixture evenly into molds and place in fridge until set, about 30-45 minutes.
